Dr. Yinka OpekeFounder & CEO
Dr. Opeke is a Houston based International Business Consultant with over 17 years of industry experience, connecting businesses, mentoring startups, and brokering mutually beneficial relationships among organizations at private and government levels. She graduated from University of Ibadan (UI), Nigeria with a B.Sc. in Geography, and M.Sc. in Geographical and Information Systems (GIS). She later proceeded to the United Kingdom to obtain another M.Sc. in Project Management from Queen Mary University of London. In 2018, she bagged a doctorate degree from Walden University, Minnesota, USA, where she specialized in Entrepreneurship and Organizational Leadership. Dr. Yinka is PRINCE2 certified and a certified John Maxwell coach, speaker and trainer. She is privileged to have attended several local and international trainings & workshops.
Dr. Yinka is also the CEO of Smart Gas, a Nigeria based gas company established to leverage technologies to solve challenges faced by consumers when purchasing cooking gas. Smart Gas is the only technology driven, app based platform in the market designed from the ground up for clients to experience a more convenient way to purchase cooking gas, increase transaction efficiency, and optimize user experience.
Smart Gas Foundation (SGF), the not-profit arm of Smart Gas in Nigeria is also a duly registered 501c3 in Houston. In SGF, they donate pre-filled cooking gas cylinders with burners to less privileged communities in Nigeria, conduct advocacy programs on transition from solid fuels like firewood, kerosene, charcoal and also on safe use of cooking gas while cooking.
Dr. Yinka is the Founder & CEO of Trade Expo Africa (TEXA), a U.S. registered, Houston based company focused on promoting bilateral trade relations, investment opportunities, educational advancements, international collaborations and information exchange between businesses in the U.S. & Africa. With her commendable strong business networks with SME focused, public and private organizations in Nigeria, she has succeeded in helping businesses penetrate international markets.
She achieves this through exhibitions, study trips, B2B Meetings & trade missions. She has received Certificates of Recognition from Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, State Representative Shawn Thierry and Mayor of Houston, Mayor Sylvester Turner for her tremendous efforts at promoting trade and investment in Houston.
Up till November 2021, Dr. Opeke held an executive board position at the Texas West Africa Chamber of Commerce (TWACC) as their Treasurer, Head of Strategy & Corporate Governance. Together with her team, they promoted trade alliances between businesses in Texas and West Africa. Since the inception of TWACC in 2019, Dr. Yinka and her team hosted the President of Guinea, 3 Ambassadors, and visited over seven African Ambassadors in Washington D.C and Houston.
In September 2021, she was awarded Amazon of the year by the Nigeria Media Nite-Out Awards and in March 2022, The Silverbird Group awarded her The Silverbird Special Achievement Award.
